Grupo Manía is a popular merengue group from Puerto Rico .

Career

Grupo Manía or Grupomanía or GrupoManía was founded in 1993 in Puerto Rico. The band consists of the brothers Héctor, Edwin and Oscar Serrano and Alfred Cotto. In 1994 Alfred Cotto was replaced by Elvis Crespo before he started a solo career in 1997. His successor was Reynaldo Santiago from the group Zona Roja, another well-known merengue band from that time. The band received a gold album and was considered one of the best merengue groups. At the beginning of the 21st century there were controversial discussions within the Grupo Manía, which ended with Héctor Serrano, the band's musical director, firing Cotto and Santiago. He accused the two of a lack of discipline. Cotto and Santiago then founded the group Grupo Starz, while Alex Rivera and Juan Luis Guzmán succeeded them at Grupo Manía. The great success then failed to materialize, so that Héctor Serrano organized a reunification tour with Elvis Crespo and Alfred Cotto. After three years of creative break, the album 15 Años de Corazon "was recorded in 2008. Among the greatest hits of Grupo Manía are songs like:" A Que Te Pego Mi Manía "," Teléfono "," Sube Sube "," Caracolito "and" La Peleona ”.
