Monastery cellar in Gstetten, around 1950

The Gstetten , also Kellergstetten , a district of Poysdorf is a square-like ensemble of press houses and wine cellars.

history

In 1629 the reconstruction of the parish church in Poysdorf began . The clay from which the building material for the church, consecrated in 1640, was burned came from a clay pit near the construction site. The clay for the citizens' hospital , completed in 1663, and the Capuchin monastery, built from 1677 to 1681, were also removed from this clay pit. This created a triangular depression in the terrain with wine cellars dug into the walls. The oldest date from the 17th century. A wine cellar in Gstetten is mentioned in the foundation of Poysdorf's widow Barbara Dibiocken from 1664. In 1750 the Capuchins built a new monastery cellar in the Gstetten. Two to three-story press houses were built in front of the wine cellars. The Franziszeische Cadastre from 1821 shows the Kellergstetten in its present form. In the 20th century, the Gstetten became the city's fairground. The Poysdorf wine festival has been held here every year since the 1950s . In 2006 the Poydium was built in the middle of the area .

description

The Gstetten has the shape of a triangle with rounded corners. The main entrance is in the east, another entrance is in the north. In the south only a staircase leads up to the parish church. Around the Gstetten there are over 30 press houses with wine cellars behind them. The most impressive is the former monastery cellar, which now houses the Poysdofer sparkling wine world. The middle of the Gstetten is occupied by the tree-lined fairground with the Gstetten stage Poydium.
