The Guadeloupe parakeet ( Psittacara labati , Syn . : Aratinga labati ), also known as the Labat parakeet , is an extinct small parrot whose existence is only based on travel stories by Jean-Baptiste Labat , Griffith Hughes and Jean-Baptiste Du Tertre . Labat, after whom the species was named, wrote in his work Nouveau Voyage aux isles l'Amérique in 1722 : “The parakeets of Guadeloupe are the size of a blackbird. They are completely green, apart from a few red feathers on the head ”. In 1667 Du Tertre mentioned in his work Histoîre générale des Antilles habitées par les François a macaw, an Amazon parrot and a parakeet. The parakeet was described as the size of a magpie and completely green. The Guadeloupe parakeet died out in the 18th century.

The systematic classification of the species is difficult. The bird has been assigned to different genera: Eupsittula , Aratinga and finally Psittacara
