Guandi Temple on Dongshan Island
The Guandi Temple on the island of Dongshan ( Chinese 东山 关帝庙 , Pinyin Dōngshān Guāndì miào , English Guandi Temple of Dongshan Island ) or the Guandi Temple on Dongshan is one of the Guan Yu - who is known as the god of war Guandi ( 關 帝 / 关帝 , Guāndì ) - consecrated temple on Dongshan Island ( Dongshan Wan ) in the coastal waters of the Taiwan Strait ( Dongshan County 东山 县 of Zhangzhou ) in the Chinese province of Fujian .
It was built in 1387 in the time of the Ming Dynasty and receives numerous visits from residents of Taiwan , especially on Guan Yu's birthday on the 13th of the 5th month according to the traditional Chinese lunar calendar .
The Guandi Temple of Dongshan ( Dongshan Guan Di miao ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (4-144) since 1996 .
