Dongshan (Zhangzhou)
Dongshan ( Chinese 东山 县 , Pinyin Dōngshān Xiàn ) is a district and at the same time an archipelago that consists of the main island Dongshan Dao (东山岛) and 44 minor islands. Dongshan County is part of the prefecture-level city of Zhangzhou in southeast China's Fujian Province . It was established in 1993 as a tourist zone with preferential conditions for foreign investments and, along with Xiamen and Xiasha, is one of the most famous seaside resorts in the province.
Dongshan has an area of 248.9 km² and about 200,000 inhabitants (2001). The seat of the county government is the large community Xipu (西 埔 镇). The district is made up of six large municipalities.
