Xiangcheng (Zhangzhou)

The District Xiangcheng ( Chinese  芗城区 , Pinyin Xiangcheng Qū ) is the administrative headquarters of the Chinese prefecture-level city Zhangzhou in southern province of Fujian . It was founded in 1985 and roughly corresponds to the former city of Zhangzhou, which was dissolved when it was founded. Xiangcheng is about 40 kilometers inland from the mouth of the Jiulong Jiang at the confluence of a tributary. Together with the district of Longwen (龙 文 区) it forms the urban agglomeration of Zhangzhou.

Xiangcheng has a population of 514,400 (2002) and a gross domestic product of 11.6 billion yuan . The GDP per capita was 22,494 renminbi, well above the average for Fujian Province.

The city district has a history of over two thousand years and was the center of immigrants to Taiwan in the 17th century , and later to Singapore , Penang and Jakarta .

Xiangcheng is known in the People's Republic of China as the city ​​of flowers and fruits . The six fruits are best known : mandarins , lychee , bananas , longan , pomelo and pineapple, as well as the three precious flowers : daffodil , camellia and orchid .
