The Jiulong River has a length of 285 kilometers and an area of influence of 14,751 square kilometers. It rises in the central mountain range of Fujian. With the Bei Xi and the Xi Xi, it has two major tributaries. On its way to the sea it flows through Longyan , Zhangping , Hua'an and Zhangzhou . Its confluence with the Taiwan Strait is between Longhai and Xiamen . Its catchment area is almost entirely above the Zhangzhou plain.

The highest value so far was determined in 1975 with 440 cubic meters per second, the lowest value in 1963 with 161 cubic meters per second.
