Guido da Siena ( bl. 1260-1290) was an Italian painter.

Life

Guido da Siena is considered to be one of the main masters of Sienese painting of the second half of the 13th century. His name is passed down through an inscription on one of his main works, the great " Maestà ", in the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena . It is certainly a stage name. Secure documents about him are not known. Attempts to identify him with Guido da Ghezzo or Guido da Graziano could not be substantiated.

Although it is not known from whom he learned the craft of painting, his works are closely related to the works of the Florentine artist Coppo di Marcovaldo . It is possible that Guido da Siena met him around 1260, when Coppo da Marcovaldo was believed to have been captured by the Sienese.

Since the pictures ascribed to Guido da Siena are not of uniform quality, it can be assumed that he had a larger workshop.
