Guillaume Crétin
Guillaume Crétin ( 1460 - November 1525 ) was a French clergyman and poet.
life and work
Crétin was court chaplain, court poet and cantor in the Sainte-Chapelle in 1523 in Paris . The literary group of the Grands rhétoriqueurs counted him among its members. Jean Lemaire de Belges regarded him as his teacher, Clément Marot admired him, but François Rabelais mocked him as the cat Raminagrobis. He was considered the master of rime équivoque , ie a pair of rhymes that included a play on words: “Peuples en paix te plaise maintenir, / Et envers nous si bien la main tenir, / Qu'après la vie avons fin de mort sûre / Pour éviter infernale morsure. »From today's point of view, many of his texts appear overloaded ( obèse “ obese ”, according to Robert Sabatier's judgment ).
