Guiomar Narváez

Guiomar Narváez (* 1937 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan pianist and music teacher .

Life

The daughter of the composer and conductor Antonio R. Narváez had lessons at the Escuela de Música Juan Manuel Olivares with Juan Bautista Plaza , Antonio Ochoa , Ángel Sauce and the pianist Gerty Haas . She continued her training with Richard Hauser , Alfred Uhl and Erwin Ratz at the Vienna Music Academy.

Narváez was active as a pianist mainly in Venezuela and other American countries, but also performed in Cairo, Beirut and Baghdad. Her repertoire focuses on the music of Latin American and Caribbean composers, and she is considered an outstanding interpreter of Inocente Carreño's works .

Narváez has taught at almost all of the major conservatories in Venezuela. In 1992 she founded the Cáterdra Libre de Piiano de Venezuela y Latinoamérica and the piano competitions El Valse Venezolano (1994) and El Piano Venezolano (2002). She is president of the Fundación Vicente Emilio Sojo of the Musicological Institute of the University of Caracas.

Narváez was u. a. awarded the Order of Teresa Carreño , the Order of Andrés Bello and the Order of Francisco Esteban Gómez in gold.
