Arturo Michelena
Arturo Michelena (born June 16, 1863 in Valencia , † July 29, 1898 in Caracas ) was a Venezuelan painter.
Life
Michelena began painting under the guidance of his father as a child. He traveled to Paris , where he studied at the Académie Julian . He was the first Venezuelan painter to achieve success abroad and, along with Cristóbal Rojas (1857–1890) and Martín Tovar y Tovar (1827–1902), one of the most important Venezuelan painters of the 19th century.
The Museo Arturo Michelena in Caracas is named after him.
