The Gull Lake is a lake with a diameter of 250 m to the north of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It is located near the southwest bank of King Edward Cove, half a mile south of the Grytviken whaling station .
The German zoologist and doctor August Emil Alfred Szielasko (1864–1928), who mapped the area around the lake during a visit to South Georgia in 1906, named it as Seagull Lake . Robert Cushman Murphy translated this term into English in 1947, after visiting the lake in November 1912. The English language form has been recognized by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee since 1954 .
