The term rubber lacquer in Latin Resina Lacca , Resina Laccae , Gummi Lacca refers to the old name for the stick lacquer , rod lacquer of the lacquer scale insects or incorrectly for the shellac made from it , it comes from the time when it was thought that shellac was made from the gum resin of the host plants the lacquer scale insects exist.

Nowadays, rubber lacquer also refers to lacquer that is specially intended for use on rubber-like materials, as well as one that contains liquid rubber .
