Gun Fight is a western-themed arcade game developed by Midway in 1975 . It was the first game that, in contrast to TTL technology, already used a microprocessor . It was also the first Japanese game to be exported to the United States .
Gameplay
Two cowboys must try to shoot the other player. They are located on the left and right edges of the screen and can only move vertically (up / down). In the middle of the screen there are cacti that you cannot shoot through. Occasionally a carriage drives through the picture. There is one point for each hit. The game rounds usually last 90 seconds. Usually two players play against each other. But you can also play against the computer.
technology
Gun Fight uses an intel 8080 processor. The monitor is a 19-inch black and white monitor with a yellow overlay film.
control
Each player has a joystick that controls the character and a lever that determines the direction of the shot. Unlike other games, the joystick is on the right.
development
The game was first developed as Gunman by Taito TTL-based. In 1975 it was licensed to Bally / Midway for the USA. DNA Dave ( Nutting Associates ), who also worked for Nolan Bushnell (later Atari ), initially planned to bring out the game Sea Wolf , but then decided on Gun Fight.
Space Invaders (Taito, 1978) is based on this 8080 black and white platform invented by Dave Nutting.
Successors and ports
successor
1977 appeared under the name Boot Hill - with a designed background image (overlay), seen in the film Zombie (Dawn of the Dead), a successor.
Ports
Later there were various ports for home computers , e.g. B. the Commodore 64 , partly under names like Gunfight or Gun Smoke .
