Gunnar Heydenreich

Gunnar Heydenreich (* 1966 in Haldensleben ) is a German restorer and art historian. He teaches as professor for restoration, art technology and conservation science at the Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences at the Technical University of Cologne .

Life

Heydenreich studied painting restoration at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1987 to 1992 . After completing a traineeship in the Conservation Department of Tate , he became a restorer for paintings and contemporary art at the restoration center of the state capital Düsseldorf (donation from Henkel), of which he was deputy head from 1995. After completing part-time postgraduate studies from 1994 to 2002 at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD.

Heydenreich is co-founder of the International Network for the Conservation of Contemporary Art (INCCA) and worked on several international research projects that dealt with the preservation and presentation of contemporary art: Inside Installations (2004–2007), PRACTICs: Practices, Research, Access, Collaboration, Teaching in Conservation of Contemporary Art (2009–2011), NeCCAR: Network for Conservation of Contemporary Art Research (2012–2015) and NACCA: New Approaches in the Conservation of Contemporary Art (2015–2019).

Heydenreich heads the Cranach Digital Archive, founded in 2009 at the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf . In 2017 he curated the Lucas Cranach the Elder exhibition here together with Daniel Görres and Beat Wismer . Master - Brand - Modern .

Since 2009 he has been teaching as professor for restoration, art technology and conservation science with a focus on modern and contemporary art at the Institute for Restoration and Conservation Science (Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences - CICS) at the Technical University of Cologne.
