Gunter Kahlert

Gunter Kahlert (born October 9, 1938 in Dresden ) is a German conductor and music teacher.

Kahlert studied trombone at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden until 1961 and then worked as a trombonist at the theaters of Wismar and Stralsund . Until 1968 he studied conducting at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin . In 1966 he became a répétiteur and Kapellmeister at the Stralsund Theater . In the following year he became chief repetiteur at the German National Theater in Weimar ; from 1970 to 2002 he worked there as Kapellmeister. From 1982 Kahlert taught accompaniment, score playing and conducting at the Liszt School of Music Weimar. Since 1991 he has held a professorship at the university and heads the conducting department, and from 1995 to 2003 he was also the prorector for teaching. For eleven years he was also chief conductor of the college's symphony orchestra.
