Gunther Rost

Gunther Rost (born October 3, 1974 in Würzburg ) is a German conductor, concert organist and professor for organ at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz , where he heads the Institute for Church Music and Organ and founded the Center for Organ Research . From 2012 to 2014 he was organist in residence with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra .

Rost was a student of Marie-Claire Alain (Paris) and has won numerous international music competitions, such as the Leipzig Bach Competition , the ION ( International Organ Week Nuremberg ) and the Dallas International Organ Competition. In addition to the organ and piano works by Johann Sebastian Bach , the music of the Czech composer Petr Eben forms a focus of his artistic activity through the complete recording of Eben's organ works.

In the field of organ building, he made a name for himself by designing several mobile concert organs for the Graz University of Art and developing height-adjustable organ console.

Gunther Rost leads the 4D - Orchester Steiermark and is artistic director of the annual Orgelfrühling Steiermark festival that takes place every spring .
