history
In 2011, Gunther Rost took over as artistic director of the “Organ Spring in Herz-Jesu” concert series, which was previously organized by Fritz Haselwander and the Herz-Jesu-Kirche (Graz) .
In 2012 he expanded it with the commitment of the Graz University of Art and private initiatives for the “Graz Organ Spring”: For the first time, in addition to the historic Walcker organ of the Sacred Heart Church, other Graz organs, primarily the mobile organs at the Center for Organ Research , were used. International guest organists performed alongside outstanding students and graduates from the University of Art in Graz, and the program was expanded to include courses and cross-genre projects.
In terms of program, the festival set itself the goal of showing the organ as a solo instrument with orchestra and in combination with drama . The productions “Faust”, “Schlafes Bruder”, “An Offer You Can't Refuse”, “Höllenfahrt” and “Der Großinquisitor” were performed at MUMUTH in Graz .
In 2017, the festival took place outside Graz for the first time under the name Orgelfrühling Steiermark . The historical organs in Pöllauberg , Sankt Veit in southern Styria and Straden as well as individual modern instruments from the region were integrated. In 2018 more venues were added, the regions are connected to Graz by shuttle buses.
