Christoph Bossert (* 1957 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German organist and university professor for organ.

Life

After attending the Protestant theological seminars in Maulbronn and Blaubeuren , he began his studies at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart in 1978 , where Werner Jacob (organ), Kenneth Gilbert (harpsichord), Ulrich Süße and Helmut Lachenmann (composition) his teachers were. Further studies followed with Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini in Friborg / Switzerland (organ, harpsichord, musicology).

In 1987 he started teaching at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. From 1987 to 1992 he taught at the University for Church Music in Esslingen, today's Evangelical University for Church Music in Tübingen. In 1991 he became professor for organ and head of the study commission for Protestant church music at the Trossingen University of Music , in 2007 he became professor for artistic and liturgical organ playing and head of the church music and organ department at the Würzburg University of Music .

Bossert devotes himself to intensive concert activity. This included a concert tour to the USA (1983) and the organ cycle to Max Reger in Stuttgart and at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (1987). As a soloist in important concert series, such as in Nuremberg, Kassel, Stuttgart and Haarlem / Netherlands, he is particularly committed to the performance and interpretation of contemporary music. Among the numerous recordings, the project of a complete recording of Max Reger's organ works on authentic instruments (Intercord / EMI) as well as the world's first recording of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier on organs of the 18th century should be highlighted. He gained recognition as the author of numerous musicological studies and lectures and as a composer on behalf of radio stations and renowned festivals.

His well-known students include Balázs Szabó , Christian Schmitt-Engelstadt and Michael Stadtherr.
