Balázs Szabó

Balázs Szabó (* 1985 in Miskolc , Hungary ) is a Hungarian organist, musicologist and organ expert.

Life

Szabó began his musical training at the age of 15 in his hometown. From 2003 he studied organ at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, which was founded by Ferenc Liszt , and then in Würzburg , Trossingen and Rome. During his studies he received master classes from Christoph Bossert , in whose class he completed the master class for organ in 2010 . At the same time as the master class, he completed the international master's program "OrganExpert" under the patronage of the Vatican . As an organ expert, he is active throughout Europe, his focus is on the restoration and reconstruction of organs from the 19th and early 20th centuries. In 2015 he received his doctorate as a musicologist on Max Reger's organ works at the Universiteit Utrecht (NL) with AA Clement.

Through self-study he learned the restoration of art harmonies and gives concerts all over Europe as a harmonist on instruments from his instrument collection that he restored. Since 2011 he has been teaching at the Ferenc Liszt Music University in Budapest, where he a. a. directs the newly organized organology training. Since 2013 he has also been teaching an organ class at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest.

As a keyboard instrument specialist, he is active as a concert pianist and harpsichordist alongside his organist career. As one of the few harmonists, he has mastered the play of Mustel's art harmonies.
