Grand Prix de Chartres
The Grand Prix de Chartres is an international music competition for young organists that is held every two years in Chartres Cathedral . It took place for the 26th time in 2018. A Grand Prix d'Interprétation (literary play), a Grand Prix d'Improvisation ( organ improvisation ) and a Prix du Public ( audience award ) will be awarded. In addition, a special prize is usually awarded that is dedicated to a composer.
In 1973 he entered the World Federation of International Music Competitions .
Target group and process
Participation is open to organists of all nationalities who are under 32 years of age.
The jury makes a preselection based on a sound recording sent in by the participant. This is followed by two elimination rounds (quarter-finals and semi-finals, 2018 in the parish church of Saint-Eustache in Paris) and the public final in Chartres Cathedral.
The pieces to be played for the pre-selection and all competition rounds are specified by the jury in the competition announcement. In addition to important pieces from the classical organ repertoire, the program regularly includes compositions commissioned by the competition sponsor, the Association Grandes Orgues de Chartres .
jury
The jury consists of internationally known concert organists and important university lecturers. By 2018, a total of 148 people were represented in the juries, including 58 from France and 90 from abroad.
The preselection and the competition rounds take place anonymously, which means that the identity of the participants is not known to the jury when they make their decision.
