Christian Barthen

Christian Barthen (born March 30, 1984 in Saarbrücken ) is a German organist , pianist , harpsichordist and church musician .

biography

Barthen was accepted into Wolfgang Rübsam's organ class at the Saar University of Music in Saarbrücken as a young student . After graduating from the Willi-Graf-Gymnasium Saarbrücken, he studied, also at the Saar University of Music, in the organ classes of Wolfgang Rübsam and Andreas Rothkopf and in the piano classes of Robert Leonardy and Jean Micault . Another major focus of his studies in harpsichord with Lutz Gillmann is early music . In 2011/12 he took private studies with Philippe Lefebvre at the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris . He completed his studies with the A-exam for Protestant church music (Master of Church Music A), the diploma in music pedagogy for piano and harpsichord and the concert qualification with distinction (Master of Arts - Organ Performance). In 2012 he also took up organ studies in the soloist class of Ludger Lohmann at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart , which he completed in 2014 with the concert exam (Soloist Diploma - Organ Performance). In addition, he has extensive activities as a concert organist in Germany and other European countries. His repertoire includes all eras and styles, but he is particularly interested in the organ music of the 19th and 20th centuries and the organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach .

Since 1997 he has worked as a church musician at various locations in Saarland. Among other things, he was assistant to Theo Brandmüller at the Ludwigskirche in Saarbrücken. From March 2015 to February 2020 he was the organist of the large Link organ and cantor of the Protestant town church in Giengen an der Brenz . Since March 2020 he has been cantor of the Evangelical Church of St. Anna in Augsburg and succeeds Michael Nonnenmacher, who has retired, in this role . He also works in the organ sector as a private music teacher.
