Günther Kaunzinger

Günther Kaunzinger (born April 10, 1938 in Sulzbach ) is a German organist and pianist.

Career

Günther Kaunzinger studied organ, piano, conducting and composition in Nuremberg and Frankfurt (Main) ; there he also worked as a répétiteur at the opera. From 1968 to 1974 he undertook organ studies in Paris with Marie-Claire Alain , Maurice Duruflé and Jean Guillou . At the same time, his reputation as an interpreter of mainly French Romanticism and as a virtuoso improviser developed.

Professional and musical activities

In 1974 he was appointed to the chair of the organ at the University of Music in Würzburg and was appointed head of the church music department. Until 1976 he also led a piano class. In the same year, the appointments as Head of the Organ Department at the Catholic University of America and Artist in Residence at the National Shrine took place, both in Washington, DC , USA. Even after returning to the University of Music in Würzburg in 1978, he continued his international concert activities and recorded more than 50 CDs. Kaunzinger works as a teacher worldwide; The Memmingen master courses for organ interpretation he founded maintain a variable spectrum of literature with a focus on French Romanticism.

Organ planning

The arrangements for new organs that he oversaw are inspired by the tradition of Aristide Cavaillé-Coll .
