Gurbantünggüt

The Gurbantünggüt , Gurban Tunggut , Dzoosotoyn-Elisen or Junggar Desert ( Chinese  古尔 班 通 古特沙 漠 , Pinyin Gǔ'ěrbāntōnggǔtè Shāmò ) is located in the middle of the Junggar Basin (Djungarian Basin) in northern Xinjiang . It has an area of ​​48,800 square kilometers and is between 300 and 600 meters above sea level. It is the second largest desert in China. Their annual rainfall reaches 70 to 150 mm. In it lies the Eurasian pole of inaccessibility . Large oil deposits were discovered on the edge of the desert in Karamay in the 1950s .
