Gusa Jamat is a village in the Darfur region in southwest Sudan , about 100 kilometers southeast of al-Fashir , the capital of the state of Shamal Darfur (North Darfur).

The place is located on a plateau and - like other villages in the area - is abundantly supplied with water in the rainy season.

In the midst of the ongoing Darfur conflict , Gusa Jamat and the surrounding area (where around 10,000 people live) have remained largely quiet as the village has its own militia that keeps both rebels and government troops away. The participating villages can warn each other via a network of danger. In addition to members of black African farmers, the village militia also includes some “Arab” cattle breeders.

In addition, while Darfur is increasingly dependent on outside aid, Gusa Jamat operates its own health post.
