Gustav Born (embryologist)

Gustav Jacob Born (born April 22, 1851 in Kempen ; died July 6, 1900 in Breslau ) was a German embryologist .

Life

Gustav Born studied medicine with Rudolf Heidenhain in Breslau and interned with Wilhelm Waldeyer . He received his doctorate in Berlin in 1873. Born became a professor of anatomy and embryology at the University of Wroclaw.

He is considered to be the discoverer of the endocrine function of the corpus luteum . In 1888 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

His older son was the Nobel laureate for physics Max Born , the younger son Wolfgang Born became an artist and art historian.
