Gusu

Gusu ( Chinese 姑苏区 , Pinyin Gūsū Qū ) is a municipality in the southern Chinese city of Suzhou in Jiangsu Province . It was created on August 10, 2012 by the union of the then Canglang , Pingjiang and Jinchang Districts . Gusu has an area of 84 km² and around 754,800 inhabitants (registered residences, end of 2011). Gusu encompasses the entire city center of Suzhou, including the famous Old Town ( Venice of the East ). The Suzhou City Government is based in Gusu.

Administrative structure

At the community level, Gusu consists of 18 street districts and three large communities . These are:

Road neighborhood Suijin (苏锦街道), seat of the government of the municipality;

Baiyangwan Street District (白洋湾街道);

Road quarter Jinchang (金阊街道);

Road quarter Chengbei (城北街道);

Fengmen Street District (葑门街道);

Guanqian Street District (观前街道);

Huqiu Street District (虎丘街道);

Liuyuan Street District (留园街道);

Loumen street district (娄门街道);

Road quarter Canglang (沧浪街道);

Pingjiang Street District (平江街道);

Shilu Street District (石路街道);

Shuangta Street District (双塔街道);

Taohuawu Street District (桃花坞街道);

Wumenqiao Street District (吴门桥街道);

Xujiang Street District (胥江街道);

Youxin Street District (友新街道);

Loufeng street district (娄葑街道);

Road quarter Shengpu (胜浦街道);

Weiting street district (唯亭街道);

Xietang Street District (斜塘 Straßen).

For a transitional period, until the three former districts have grown together, the government of the new district set up four “administrative committees” (,) to which the street districts and large municipalities are subordinate. They are: "New Town Lancang" (沧浪新城管委会), "New Town Pingjiang" (平江新城管委会), "New Town Jinchang" (金阊新城管委会) and "Commercial and Business District Nanmen" (南门商贸区管委会).
