The manor was first mentioned in 1398. At that time it belonged to a von Bockum family. The von Wesseler family later became owners of the estate through an exchange for the Weslarn manor in the Soest district. A later landowner took the name of Bockum-Dolffs. Other owners were the von Kleinsorgen, von Papen and, until 1841, the von Schade family.

After Baron Joseph von Schade died without an heir, he bequeathed the estate to his brother's daughter, Theresia von Schade. On November 25, 1841, she married Baron Johann von Devivere, who later became the district administrator of the Meschede district . The Bockum estate was later owned by the Dameris family. Up until the end of the 1980s, the second plant of the knitwear factory owned by Sophie Stecker was located on the estate . After the business was closed, parts of the property were rented out commercially and the south wing was sold to a roofing company. In 2005 the son M. Dameris bought the south wing back. Until 2011, the outbuildings of the estate also housed its manufacture for environmentally friendly wooden caravans . Parts of the buildings were restored, the manor house received a new roofing and the Marienkapelle belonging to the manor was extensively restored. The historic altar was extensively restored in 2006 together with the monument protection authority. Today the altar shines in its original form. In 2011 the estate was sold to a couple.
