geography

Gut Drechen is located about eight kilometers south of Hamm at an altitude of 92  m above sea level. NN .

history

The history of the farm goes back to the 12th century under the name "Oberhof Drechen" or "Schultenhof Drechen". The Drechen estate was originally a domain of the sovereigns. Eight sub-courts belonged to his court association. The task of this association was to take care of the count's household and the crew of the nearby Mark Castle .

The farm almost assumed its present form around 1900 under the management of Emil Schulze-Steinen and his wife Frieda: They built the mansion in 1900 in neo-Renaissance forms. Next to the manor house you can still find remains of the old moat , i.e. the moat of the hunting lodge. The wide path leading to the manor house is flanked by imposing half-timbered buildings that were built in the 19th century and around 1900.

To this day the estate is owned by his descendants.

Building and park

The farm buildings of the manor house are parallel to each other and form an elongated courtyard.

The parts of the park north of the orangery , which was built between 1827 and 1828 and served as a prison camp during the Second World War , are no longer available, apart from a few old trees. Some linden trees in the area of the access to the manor house and the orangery are noteworthy. The remaining park essentially consists of a central lawn with individual flower beds. The well-kept park is only used privately.

Todays use

The estate is still being cultivated. Some of the former buildings (for stables and the orangery) are used for residential purposes. Most of the arable land is used as a golf course.

The property is not open to the public.
