The farm is located in the Aachen landscape protection area , established in the 1960s, in the area of the Johannisbachtal , which supplies the densely built-up Aachen basin together with the Kannegießerbach valley with fresh air from the Aachen forest , especially at night .

Buildings and use

The oldest farm buildings date from around 1830, the separate tenant house dates from 1860. The so-called manor house is the former summer residence of an Aachen cloth manufacturer and was built in 1871 as the youngest part of the closed square courtyard.

The farm is currently managed by the Veith family, who have been running a conventional dairy farm there since the 1970s. In the 1990s, the company was restructured and is now managed according to Bioland guidelines.

history

Berghof

Neuenhof

The Hasselholz estate was first mentioned in a document in the 15th century as part of a hamlet consisting of several courtyards , which initially consisted of the individual estates of Altenhof, Blockhaus and Berghof. In 1618, Emanuel Amya also had the Neuenhof built there, which made Gut Hasselholz the seat of the Amya family for many years.

During the First World War , French prisoners of war were interned on the farm. In September 1944, during the Second World War , the hamlet of Hasselholz was part of the German defense front against the advancing American troops for two weeks. Rifle positions from this time can still be found in the upstream so-called Dachswald , from where the courtyard came under heavy fire. The farm buildings were partly badly damaged and there are still clear bullet holes in the facade of the “mansion”. After the war, the hamlet of Hasselholz was a popular location for smugglers' trains and a customs lookout due to its proximity to the border triangle.
