The landscape protection area Aachen with an area of 8131.26 ha comprises all areas under landscape protection in the area of the city of Aachen . It was established with the landscape plan of the city of Aachen in 1988. The protected area covers 50.5% of the city area.
The landscape protection area includes a wide range of different landscapes - from the Aachen forest in the south, to agricultural areas on the edge of the built-up urban areas, for example in the Soers or Orsbach , to the parks on the Lousberg or the Aachen zoo .
The current preliminary draft for a new landscape plan provides for the landscape protection area to be split up into 19 individual thematically and regionally clearer landscape protection areas and for additional areas to be added to a total of 20 new nature protection areas or the existing 12 nature protection areas. The total area of the protected areas will also be increased, so that despite the new nature reserves, the 19 LSGs cover more area than the previous LSG Aachen.
