Gut Isselhorst
Gut Isselhorst , a historic manor from 1691, is located in the midst of an extensive natural and cultural landscape in the Wesel district of Obrighoven near the Issel , which rises a few kilometers away. It is surrounded by a double moat.
The historic main building from 1691 with its four-storey, slim tower, which reveals the year of construction through its wall anchors , is located in an open area modeled on the English landscape park . In 1897 the main building was expanded with an annex in historicist form. The curved outside staircase on the north-western back still refers to the old access via a triple bridge system.
The buildings are surrounded by old trees with several natural monuments, including chestnuts, lime trees, beeches, ginkos, oaks, plane trees and tulip trees. It is worth mentioning that there are old, up to 5 meter high rhododendrons and azaleas. A fruit bongert with an old orchard meadow is separated by an inner ditch.
At the intersection of the parcels there is a coach house, surrounded by centuries-old chestnuts . On the other side of the farm road, which divides the total area, there is a wood and an agricultural area.
In the immediate vicinity of Gut Isselhorst is the Bärenschleuse , through which the water of the Issel could be directed through the Issel Canal to Wesel in the event of a defense , in order to flood the moat of the fortress.
There may be a connection between the Bärenschleuse and the construction of Gut Isselhorst. Unfortunately, there is a lack of historical records to shed light on history.
