Gut Schnellenberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Good Schnellenberg is a manor on the western outskirts of Lueneburg . It has been in the possession of the Meding family since the 14th century .

history

The farm was first occupied in 1360, as the Meding family was enfeoffed with the estate at that time. The Schnellenberg House was later built within the branched family .

From the 16th century onwards, the manor was built similar to its present-day form. A half-timbered chapel, now a listed building, was probably renewed around 1674. Today's workers' house with a half-hipped roof was built around 1800. In 1802 the classicist mansion, also with a half-hipped roof, was completed; the design probably came from Christian Ludwig Ziegler .

Gut Schnellenberg was the seat of a patrimonial court until the 18th century . In April 1945 it was the command post of the last German city commandant of Lüneburg, Colonel Hellmuth von Bülow, who was able to save Lüneburg from destruction by clever tactics as an open city. In 1974 the municipality of Oedeme , which is adjacent to the south of the estate, was incorporated into Lüneburg.
