Guy Mariano (born March 29, 1976 in Burbank , California , USA) is a professional skateboarder who is one of the few skiers who has been very successful since the late 80s to this day.

Life

Mariano made his first media appearance in 1989 as an amateur team member of the Bones Brigade in the Powell & Peralta skateboard video Ban This . In 1991, at the age of 14, his progressive skating became world famous in Video Days of his sponsor Blind Skateboards , as the latter pioneered modern street skating.

After a sponsor change to Girl Skateboards , Mariano neglected skating and didn't allow himself to be filmed very much. As a result, he didn't get a part of his own in the team's first video, Goldfish , in 1993 . Motivated to get a full performance in the next video, he concentrated more on his skateboarding.

In 1996 there was a surprising appearance in the skate video Mouse by Girl Skateboards , which was well received by the media and the public. This part is commonly referred to as his first comeback.

In 1997 he and his teammate Rudy Johnson founded the skateboard truck company Royal .

In the following years he withdrew more and more from active skateboarding because of a burgeoning drug problem. Alcohol, crack and heroin dominated his life. After a successful cure in a rehab clinic, he began to actively drive as a professional skater again in 2005.

In 2007 he made a second comeback in the video Fully Flared by the skateboard shoe company Lakai . He won three Transworld Skateboarding Awards for his appearance : Best Video Part , Best Street Skater , and the Reader Award.

The Vice Magazine turned in 2009 a 100-minute documentary on Mariano's life.
