Guy T. Houlsby

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guy Tinmouth Houlsby (born before 1981) is a British civil engineer specializing in geotechnical engineering . He is a professor at Oxford University .

Houlsby received his PhD in 1981 from the University of Cambridge under Charles Peter Wroth (A Study of Plasticity Theories and Their Applicability to Soils).

He deals with offshore foundations such as wind turbines (such as "Suction Caisson " foundations), jack-up rigs and the development of tidal turbines , in-situ tests (such as pressure sounding , pile driving ), soil improvement, tunnels (e.g. modeling settlement damage to buildings ) and the development of constitutive models of soils (with plasticity theory such as hyperplasticity , application of thermodynamic principles).

He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering . For 2014 he was selected as a Rankine Lecturer ( Interactions in Offshore Foundation Design ).
