Alternating pile on the cloud grove

Flowers for the alternating pile

On the summit of the Kienberg, the cloud is the leitmotif for the new viewing platform. On the way there, visitors are already attuned to the building and the airy experience. At the edge of the path there are many combinations of delicate plants in the colors of the sky. In spring, the cloud image can be seen in several layers of color staggered on top of one another. The blue forget-me-not is the blue of the sky, above it are white grape hyacinths and other cloudy hyacinth flowers. The daffodils and the tulips in white float at different heights above the cloud image. In summer, the sky is enhanced by the summer flora, adding silver cloud textures made of gypsophila, geysers , eucalyptus and wax flowers. In addition, through visible and airy plant shapes such as liver balsam and spider flower, it will continue to form the high layers of clouds with the white bells of tobacco, underneath hovering umbels of bishop's herb, white spotted milkweed and compact clouds of white snapdragons.

Alternating pile fire line

Visitors are accompanied from the Kienberg promenade to the Gardens of the World through the "fire line". The paths on both sides are made up of an alternating ribbon that changes into four plant areas depending on the season. In the spring, two traces of color running against each other from light yellow to orange to red will symbolize strolling between the exhibition areas. In summer, the alternating pile on the side of the path is supposed to represent the heat of the sun in fiery tones and the harmonious interplay of colors between leaves and flowers.

playgrounds

Water playground Konrad's trip to the South Seas

The 6000 m² forest playground near the maze gardens of the world has been equipped with imaginative play areas, they rise out of the lawn as islands and are designed as South Sea motifs . On the forest playground there is a plastic whale that is suitable for climbing, a splash pad, a water forest, a giant hammock, a trampoline and roofed seating in the form of South Sea huts. This varied design makes it suitable for every age group.

Elektropolis playground

The Elektropolis playground has a play area size of 1800 m² and is located at the IGA main entrance to Kienbergpark. The climbing structure is up to eight meters high, twelve meters long and five meters wide. Hammocks and a trampoline also complement the playground. This climbing construction is an inspiration for future fantasies and takes up the fiction of the automatic city in its design. The playground is suitable for children and young people from the age of twelve in the immediate vicinity. After the IGA, the playground was made accessible to the public. This project was financed from urban redevelopment east .

Forest playground Konrad and the Polynesian giant ants

The forest playground with the Polynesian giant ant, which is 13 meters long, 6 meters wide and 3 meters high and suitable for climbing, was built on an area of 1000 m². This giant ant from the children's book creates the scene in which Konrad enters the jungle. The climbing frame was assembled as three groups of ants. This project was also financed without planning from the urban redevelopment east.

Cable car

IGA cable car

The cable car in the park is a monocable gondola from Leitner AG , which covered the construction costs of around 14 million euros and operates the cableway with a local subsidiary.

Planning and awarding

In November 2008 the Berlin Senate decided to apply for the venue on the Tempelhofer Feld for the IGA 2017 and submitted the application in March 2009. The city of Aachen had also applied for the IGA 2017, but withdrew from the application due to contractual difficulties. On November 17, 2009, the shareholders' meeting of the German Federal Horticultural Show Association awarded the contract for Berlin Tempelhof Airport as the venue for the IGA 2017. After the successful decision, IGA Berlin 2017 GmbH was founded and the first concepts for the Tempelhofer Feld location were developed. The IGA team has also been expanded and expanded. In the meantime, the Tempelhofer Feld has become a much-used open space for the Berliners, who demanded a careful development of the area. The Senate therefore looked around for a new location and found a new venue in the Marzahn Recreational Park .

criticism

With the Wuhletal, the residents and neighbors had a local recreation area right on their doorstep. Since the work for the IGA, people have been locked away from accessing the site and visiting the recreation park. After the end of the IGA, however, the local recreation area will again be free of charge for residents and accessible in an upgraded form. In addition, there were initially problems with IGA visitors who had come by car. They narrowed the parking spaces in the surrounding residential areas. The district office granted the residents special parking permits and referred to the visitor parking lot that had been set up on Landsberger Chaussee. From there there was a free shuttle bus to the park entrances.
