history
For the Federal Horticultural Show in 1959, today's Westfalenpark was created by merging the areas of the old Kaiser-Wilhelm-Grove (opened in 1894), the Buschmühlenpark , a garbage dump and allotment gardens. The area of the Federal Horticultural Show of 1959 covered 60 hectares . In the center of the new park, the Florian Tower was built as a telecommunications and observation tower , at that time the tallest building in Germany at 219.6 meters.
The Federal Garden Show had 6.8 million (according to other information: 7 million) visitors. Florian tower, Kaiserhain and water lily pond are still preserved today in the style of the 1950s.
