The Federal Horticultural Show 1991 (BUGA 1991) took place from April 26th to October 20th 1991 in the Westfalenpark in Dortmund .

history

After the Federal Garden Show in 1959 and the Federal Garden Show in 1969, this was the third Federal Garden Show in Dortmund and the Westfalenpark again served as the venue. This time ecological issues were an important element.

Garden show

The BUGA was opened in 1991 by Federal Environment Minister Klaus Töpfer , who represented Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker .

The exhibition area covered 70 hectares. Due to the previous exhibitions, there was a large amount of old trees. The new design was based on this. An important element of the BUGA 1991 was that wide promenades were reduced to narrower paths. The Wiesenbach received a new border made of wild perennials .

The rose garden in the Kaiserhain was laid out in 1987. It is an important part of the German Rosarium in the Westfalenpark. A heather garden, a cottage garden and a pharmacy garden were also shown. Ten garden pictures were also presented :

Further south, a part of the garden was created based on the thoughts of Leberecht Migge , a pioneer and guide of ecologically oriented horticulture, three areas that were under the themes of useful and self-sufficient gardens and the earth after the climate catastrophe .

Various courses have been established, such as the nature reserve, the rainbow house, the German cookbook museum and the Dortmund public observatory . 2.5% of the park area (17,500 m²) was placed under nature protection and has been looked after by volunteer conservationists ever since .

The gastronomy at the Florian Tower was extensively redesigned by the Actien brewery on the occasion of the Federal Garden Show . The park hall, built in 1969 for the second Dortmund Federal Horticultural Show, received a restaurant and a beer garden from the Stifts brewery . The solar energy forum was presented to the north of the Florian Tower. There, the United Electricity Works Westphalia presented an exhibition on renewable energies .

Park railway

The park railway , inherited from the previous Federal Garden Show, was also in operation at the BUGA 1991.
