The Gwendraeth Valleys Railway , also known as the Gwendreath Valleys Railway , was a British railway company based in Glamorgan , Wales .

The Gwendraeth Valleys Railway received on July 30, 1866 the concession to build a railway line from Kidwelly to Mynydd-y-Garreg . The route advertised by the Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway primarily served the freight transport needs of the lime kilns, quartz and tinplate factories at Mynydd-y-Garreg.

The line was opened in 1871. From 1892 to 1903 the company was under forced administration. During this time operations were handled by Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway . In 1904 the company was sold to the Kidwelly Tinplate Works . By the Railways Act 1921 , in which it was incorrectly referred to as the Gwendreath Valleys Railway , the Gwendraeth Valleys Railway was incorporated into the Great Western Railway on January 1, 1923 with two locomotives and 4.8 kilometers .

After the last train left in February 1959, the line was closed on August 28, 1960.
