Gyklos (Γκύκλος) is the name of a Frankish fortress on the approximately 870 m high Skounthi in the Arachneon Mountains . The castle is located about 300 m west of the pass from Lygourio to Arachneo in Greece. From here you could see the streets in both directions.

The castle was never examined archaeologically. It is very likely that there was a fortification here in prehistoric times to control the strategically important pass. The mountain was fortified with a wall in the west and north. In the east and south, where the terrain slopes steeply, this was not necessary. The walls are dry stone walls made of relatively small, roughly hewn stones. The spaces between the stones are filled with even smaller stones. The wall is about 1.80 m thick and has been preserved up to 4 m high. There was a gate to the north.

The medieval fortification is dated to the reign of the Duke of Athens Otto de la Roche , who probably had it built to protect against Leon Sgouros around 1220 , using the wall technology . The name of the castle probably comes from Kyklos (κύκλος = circle ).
