The Sottrum grammar school is a school belonging to the Sottrum community in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district of Lower Saxony .

The school started teaching in the 2004/2005 school year with eight classes in grades 5, 6 and 7. It was initially only designed as an intermediate high school. The school committee of the Rotenburg (Wümme) district later approved the establishment of an upper level.

Since the 2014/15 school year, 50 teachers have been teaching around 550 students at the school. Years 5 to 10 are three-class, the upper school profiles are so broad that there are all the options that larger high schools offer (including advanced courses in history, politics, French, chemistry and physics).

Educational work, equipment and offers

The foreign languages English, Latin, French and Spanish are currently being taught. In the French subject, there is the opportunity to prepare for the DELF exam within the framework of a working group . For particularly gifted students there has been an ancient Greek working group since the 2013/14 school year. In addition, other working groups (biology, chemistry and Turbo Delphi) are offered, which are aimed at particularly interested students. Another special feature of the school is the Natural Horsemanship working group , in which the students are given the opportunity to interact with and encounter horses.

Two working groups - juggling and speed stacking - were founded on the initiative of students and are also led by students. There are also working groups in the arts and sports. In the main subjects, remedial courses are offered for underperforming students in grades 5 to 7.

The school has specialist rooms for the subjects of physics, chemistry, biology, art and music as well as two computer rooms with 18 PCs each. In addition, the school has eight mobile media stations that can be used in the classrooms. A library where students can borrow books during breaks is run and supported by parents and students.

Student exchange

There are currently two exchange programs in French with schools in St. Amarin (France) and Québec (Canada).

Support association

Even before the grammar school was founded, the support association for the grammar school in Sottrum was founded in February 2004. The association supports school projects, class trips and the library.

The building

The building, built in 2001, initially housed the orientation level and the Sottrum Süd elementary school (today Morgenstern elementary school).
