Hägglund XM 72

The Hägglund XM 72 is a motorcycle from the Swedish manufacturer Hägglund & Söner , which was built from 1973 to 1977 and delivered to the Swedish armed forces. From 1974 a commercially available civil version was offered.

The prototype of Hägglund XM 72, for the Swedish military, had a two-stroke engine of Sachs 293 cc, of an automatic continuously variable V-belt transmission and a propeller shaft in the single-sided swing arm drive the rear wheel. The frame consisted of a sheet steel monocoque , the front wheel guidance was handled by a one-armed, pushed short swing arm . The wheels were the same front and rear and interchangeable. The Hägglund series model had a conventional telescopic fork , a single-cylinder two-stroke engine with 345 cm³ displacement, 76 mm bore and stroke (stroke ratio = 1, "square design"), which was supplied by Rotax . The output was 24 HP (18 kW) at 5,300 rpm and allowed the 135 kg light motorcycle to reach a top speed of 120 km / h.
