The Hämmerle Bridge or the Muthen Viaduct is a listed railway bridge of the Allgäu Railway , which leads over the Leiblach and the district road LI 7 . It is located in the Lindau district (Lake Constance) and touches the communities of Opfenbach (western bridgehead) and Hergatz (eastern bridgehead). It is named after the hamlets of Muthen (zu Hergatz) and Hämmerle (partly to Hergatz and partly to Opfenbach). It is a viaduct with three fish-bellied girders on brick pillars and abutments.

history

In 1850, in the course of the construction of the Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn , a bridge made of larch squared timber was built on the site of today's Hämmerle Bridge. In 1881 the wooden bridge was replaced by an iron bridge due to structural problems. Around 180 tons of iron were used for this purpose. In 1901 the bridge received an extension for the double-track expansion. In 1926 the bridge was reinforced with another 135 tons of iron from Kaiserslautern . In 1997 the bridge was renovated.
