history

The institution on Rue de Chaillot in the former Sainte-Périne convent (also known as Notre-Dame de la Paix) was privately owned after the French Revolution . Later, under the auspices of Empress Joséphine, it was transformed into an institution providing shelter to destitute elderly people, men and women, especially former civil servants and widows of employees. In 1807 the institution was attached to the Paris municipal institutions. The facility had 172 beds in 1810 and 182 in 1849.

In 1860 the location was relocated to a former villa near Avenue de Versailles due to road construction work on Avenue Joséphine. It was not until 1865 that they moved into the planned location in Rue Chardon-Lagache. Here the absorption capacity has been increased significantly. The number of beds was 287 in 189, 298 in 1948 and finally 325 in 1960.

The institution was later integrated into the group of University Hospitals Paris Ile-de-France Ouest , specializing in gerontology .
