Hönicka brewery
The Hönicka-Bräu GmbH & Co. KG is a Bavarian brewery in Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge , which has existed since 1778. The range includes 12 types of beer with an annual output of around 8500 hectoliters. The brewery employed nine people in 2019.
history
The Hönicka family has been traceable in Wunsiedel and Bernstein since the 15th century . In a house in the inner city of Wunsiedler, which now houses the Ratsstuben restaurant, the innkeeper Johann Georg Hönicka ran an inn with an attached brewery from 1778. During his stay in Wunsiedel in 1785, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe went on a hike with Hönicka on the Katharinenberg ; it is very likely that Goethe tried the Hönicka beer.
In 1905, a descendant of Johann Hönicka built a new brewery in Hofer Strasse, which is still brewed today. From 1907 Heinrich Hönicka headed the brewery for almost 60 years before handing it over to his grandson Karlheinz Popp. After his departure in 2006, the brewery was initially run by Frank Menzel and currently by Andreas Purucker.
The recipe for “Wonnesud”, a dark beer that won the European Beer Star in 2019, dates back to Heinrich (“Heiner”) Hönicka's time .

- Wunsiedler Weißbier Leicht: Leichtes Hefeweizen, alc. 3.2% vol.
- Heiner's Original: Spezialbier, alc. 5.2% vol.
- Zoigl: Zoigl , alc. 5.0% vol.
- NaturRadler: mixed beer drink , alc. 2.5% vol.
- Fichtelstoff: craft beer , alc. 5.0% vol.
- Hönickator Doppelbock: strong beer , alc. 7.4% vol.
- Schwarzenberger Doppelbock: strong beer, alc. 7.4% vol.
