The NürnbergMesse was entrusted with the implementation of the joint stand.

European Beer Star Award

The European Beer Star is a worldwide beer competition that has been held at BrauBeviale since 2004. It took place for the 15th time in 2018. The European Beer Star Award has developed into Europe's largest beer competition, jointly initiated by the Bavarian Private Breweries, the ideal sponsor of the trade fair, and the German and European umbrella organizations. In 2018, 2,344 beers from 51 countries competed.

Beer styles that have their origins in Europe are taken into account. All breweries can take part, be it local, regional, national or international breweries, not only from Europe, but from all countries. The award is given to beers which best meet the respective criteria of the variety and which are most convincing in terms of taste and quality.

Expert jury

The tasting is carried out by an international jury of experts (144 members in 2018). The benchmark for the expert tasting is not a technical laboratory analysis, but an evaluation from the consumer's point of view with all senses. The central test criteria are exclusively the quality criteria of sensory and pleasure. The aim of the blind tasting is to determine the beers that best meet the criteria for each category and are most convincing in terms of taste.

Prices

In accordance with the Olympic principle, the three best beers in each category receive gold, silver and bronze awards. If fewer than three beers meet the quality standards - especially the category specifications - fewer than three prizes can be awarded.

Consumer price

Consumers can award the consumer prize Consumers' Favorite . In addition, consumers taste and evaluate the winning beers in the individual categories. They choose their three favorites from among the gold medal winners in a blind tasting.

Creative beer culture

On the day before BrauBeviale 2019, the seventh “European MicroBrew Symposium” took place, a training event for managing directors, owners, technical managers and master brewers of European micro and pub breweries as well as representatives of the supplier industry. It is organized by NürnbergMesse and the Experimental and Training Institute for Brewery (VLB). The main topics are technology and technology with a focus on microbrewing as well as market developments in the European craft brewing segment.
