Hörður is an Icelandic name. It is derived from Old Norse Hǫrðr , which either means "hard" or refers to the former Norwegian province of Hordaland , which can be traced back to the Germanic tribe Hǫrðar (see Haruder ). Hǫrðar goes back to Germanic * haruð- meaning "warrior".
In 2011 the name Hörður was one of the 50 most popular names in Iceland .
