Højer Mølle

The Højer Mill is a historic windmill in the Danish community Højer Sogn in Jutland .

history

The octagonal windmill with a height of 22 meters and a rotating hood was built in the typical architectural style of the Dutch windmills in 1857. With its seven floors and cellar, it is the tallest mill of its type in Northern Europe. In order to be able to operate the wings, codend and brake, the mill has a circumferential gallery.

The miller's family of the founder Emil Roll operated this grain mill until 1972. In the years 1976–1977 the windmill was restored and the Mølle-og Marskmuseum was set up. The museum mill, which is under monument protection (Bygningsfredning), is functional. The original four-blade wind turbine with a diameter of 25 meters was shortened by 2 meters during the restoration to ensure the safety of visitors during demonstrations.
