Hüglin from Schönegg

Hüglin von Schönegg (mentioned from 1354 in Basel , † 1377 ibid) was a Swiss knight .

Hüglin was the son of a non-noble painter and grew up in Basel. His brother was canon of St. Leonhard in 1362 .

Hüglin's name appears for the first time in 1354 as "Hugo de Sonheco serviens armorum", as a member of the papal palace guard in Avignon . In Vicenza he was knighted in 1354. From 1376, Hüglin was Marshal of the Duchy of Spoleto .

In 1369 he sent relics of St. Theobald to the Katharinenkapelle in the Leonhardskirche Basel , where he had his grave. He also decreed that a mass should be read in the chapel for him and his brother Johannes, a canon of St. Leonhard, and that an eternal light should be on .

Hüglin was married to Agnes Fröweler and died around the age of 55.
