history

Merian stitch from Calvörde

The district in Marktflecken extended along today's Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse from Polschebockstrasse to the Catholic Church (including Halbemondstrasse). The Magdeburg Gate of the market town of Calvörde once stood on the east side of the village. In 1616 a cemetery was built in Hünerdorf on the so-called Clawes-Breite and a chapel was built on it. The top of the tower can be seen on the Merian stitch from Calvörde on the left. The chapel was used for reading services and funeral services. The St. George Hospital Calvörde was later built on the site. The inhabitants of the village were called subjects (later Kotsassen ) and did not have the same rights as the Calvordians, who were called citizens.

The market town of Calvörde and Hünerdorf only grew together after the major fire of October 6, 1700. Until 1809 Hünerdorf was an independent place. In 1809, at the time of the Kingdom of Westphalia , the place was incorporated into Calvörde and has served as the road from Calvörde ever since. Even after the merger, the church registers, among other things, were kept separate until 1845.
